Happy Anniversary!

by Jan

Wow! We can’t believe it’s been a whole year since we posted the first monthly installment of craftygal. Looking back, we can’t help but be struck by how much the craftygal staff has benefited from our mission to provide inspiration and encouragement to our fellow crafters.

We’ve met so many interesting people--visitors to the caftygal porch, contributing authors, and you, our wonderful, loyal readers. We have hit the road on all sorts of trips--seeking out new experiences and ideas to share. And we’ve stretched our writing muscles and imagination to try to keep things interesting.

Along the way there have been exciting developments like being selected as a Yahoo Pick of the Week and disappointments like losing Amie to full-time work and thesis writing. It hasn’t been the easiest of years for any of us. Personal and professional pressures have reared their ugly heads often enough to keep one or the other of us pulling our hair out pretty consistently. But through it all, we’ve continued to find the inspiration and encouragement that we love to share with you.

With anniversary thoughts in mind, we’ve pulled together a celebratory issue. In honor of our paper anniversary, Christy is busy at the Table fancying up some simple paper shades with beautiful ribbons. Faith has hit the Fridge to whip us up an indulgent chocolate cake worthy of this auspicious occasion. Early craftygal encourager Lisa Miya-Jervis of Bitch Magazine has joined me on the porch to share her thoughts on starting her entertaining and thought-provoking publication and other projects. I joined Taryn on our farthest-reaching journey yet, a visit to Julia Cameron’s Creativity Camp in New Mexico--read all about it in Travels. Taryn’s hitting the Stump as well to share her thoughts on synchronicity and craftygal’s beginnings.

Heartfelt thanks to all of you for making this such an amazing year! Here’s to many more!
