Taking a Deep Breath

by Taryn

No doubt, as you read this month's Craftygal issue, you'll find us a little more contemplative than usual. With the recent news reporting so many acts of terrorism and heroism, it's hard not to look a bit deeper into the eyes of our fellow humans (and those in the mirror) and wonder at the complexities that lay there. If you're like many of us, you're confused by the many emotions brought up by the tragedies of September 11th, bewildered at the responses you've seen in the media or witnessed firsthand, and just generally exhausted trying to get a handle on the scope of it all. If that's the case, you've come to the right place. We hope you'll indulge us in some virtual dialogue and enjoy the introspective nature of the October issue.

To begin, you can listen in with Jan as she attends a reading by Buddhist monk, Gen Kelsang Sangkyong. Then, treat yourself to the comfort of some Dairy Farmer Potatoes with Christy at the Fridge. You can also join us on the Porch as Tarot Readers, Dave Mabelis and Melissa Powell, show us what the cards hold. And then Christy will meet you at the Stump with some ideas on how to incorporate self-kindness into your usual routines. Finally, we can sit down at the Table and let our creativity loose on some unsuspecting pumpkins, in an effort to bring holiday cheer.

We hope this issue finds you safe and well, gives you some time to reflect, and leaves you a little more tranquil-feeling than you felt before.

Craftygal's Top 6 Spouse-finding Superstitions
(Who knew it was so easy?!)

1. Peel an apple in front of a candle-lit mirror to produce the image of your future spouse.

2. Put a sprig of rosemary herb and a silver dollar under your pillow on Halloween night and you'll see your future spouse in a dream.

3. Peel an apple in one go. If you succeed, drop the single apple peel on the floor to reveal the initials of your future-intended.

4. Light a bonfire on Halloween. Then drop a cutting of your hair into the burning embers and you'll dream of your future loved one.

5. Take an apple and cut it into nine pieces. Eat the apple in the dark in front of a mirror. When eating the ninth piece, you’ll see the future spouse in the mirror.

6. Light a candle. Position three mirrors so that you see three flames. In one of the mirrors, you’ll see the partner of your dreams.
